1.
Lord grant us eyes that we might see Within the seed a mighty tree Within the glowing egg a bird Within the shroud a butterfly Then taught by such as these we see Beyond all creatures it is thee And listening for thy tender voice We hear "fear not for it is I"
2.
Yes I Knew 03:20
Oh Lord, when you called me did you know My heart was dejected thro’ and thro’? Still longing for my captor’s land Where vineyards and melons grow Yes I knew, yes I knew And I called you still, and I called you child Yes I knew, yes I knew And I call you now, precious child But Lord, when you chose me did you know How marred I was and withered too? No rose for sweetness, no virtue in me Timid and rash, hasty, slow Yes I knew, yes I knew And I chose you still, and I chose you child Yes I knew, yes I knew And I choose you now, precious child My Lord, when you loved me did you know How weak were my efforts and how few? Tepid to love and helpless to do Jealous to reap, slack to sow Yes I knew, yes I knew And I loved you still, and I loved you child Yes I knew, yes I knew And I love you now, precious child Good Lord, who knows all that I cannot know You dare to know my false my true My new, my old; good Lord how could you Love if you’ve known me so? Yes I knew, yes I knew Oh I knew you then, yes, I knew you child Yes I knew, yes I knew And I know you now, precious child
3.
Center 04:38
You who were the center of a stable With saints and harmless cattle for your court Grant us lowliness You who were the center of the Temple With doves and elder saints your company Grant us purity You who were the center of all waters At your washing in the river Jordan Grant us holiness You who were the center of the mountains Upon the hillside of Beatitude Grant us seats with you You who were the center of all harvests on the Sabbath in the fields of wheat Grant us gathering You who were the center of all feasting Within the upper chamber breaking bread Grant us thanksgiving You who were the center of all sorrow Within the gardens of Gethsemane Grant us perfect peace You who were the center of all the whole earth Upon a wretched cross in Calvary Reign over all things You who were the center of all living Within the womb of death your borrowed tomb Remember we are dust You who were the center Remember us Remember all Our all in all Our all in all Remember us When you come Into your Kingdom Our all in all
4.
Voices 02:43
Voices from above and from beneath Voices of creation near and far Voices out of life and out of death From infinite space Sun, moon, star One and whole offering praise For love is now and love is our end Heaven, earth and sea all aspring Joyful all living things therein Filled to fullest overflow they sing Still onward swell Still begin Never tire to praise you well For love is now and love is our end For we all must fall silent in awhile Though now we sing our songs so sweet and rare Sun ourselves today, keep peace and smile And let love upward Send our prayer For love is now and love is our end For love is now and love is our end
5.
No other lamb, no other name No other hope in heaven earth or sea No hiding place from guilt or shame None besides thee My faith burns low, my hope burns low My heart's desire cries out in me By the deep roar of want and woe I cry out to thee I cry out to thee Oh you are life though I am dead You are love's fire however cold I may be I have to heaven, I have no rest No home besides thee No home besides thee

about

These five songs are based on the poetry of Christina Rossetti in her book The Face of the Deep: A Devotional Commentary on the Apocalypse. We released these songs for Advent 2019 because in this season of waiting to celebrate the incarnation we also anticipate the final unveiling. We all live and love and create and grieve between the already and the not yet, between the first coming and the second.
